Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between denier and Ne?
Denier is weight-based: the thicker the yarn, the higher the number. Ne is length-based: the finer the yarn, the higher the number. Therefore Denier = 5,315 ÷ Ne — they are inversely proportional.
How is the count of plied yarns calculated?
For a plied yarn such as Ne 30/2, the resulting count is approximately Ne 30 ÷ 2 = Ne 15. In denier, the plies are added: 2 × 150 den = 300 den (neglecting twist contraction).
How is yarn count measured?
A hank of fixed length (e.g. 100 m) is reeled and weighed on a precision scale. To prepare sample hanks, you can use our HMX 126 wrap reel .
